Chardham Yatra 2026: Opening Dates, Registration, Season Status & Packages

The Chardham Yatra 2026 season opened in April and, as of late September 2026, is still running. This page tracks the season: the 2026 opening dates of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, when the temples are expected to close, how registration works this year, what each month has been like, and how to plan a Char Dham Yatra in the weeks that remain – or book early for 2027. Chardham Yatra 2026 at a glance

The Char Dham Yatra covers four shrines in Uttarakhand: Yamunotri (Goddess Yamuna, ~3,293 m), Gangotri (Goddess Ganga, ~3,100 m), Kedarnath (Lord Shiva, ~3,583 m) and Badrinath (Lord Vishnu, ~3,133 m). Chardham Yatra 2026 opening dates

The Chardham Yatra 2026 began on Akshaya Tritiya, as it does every year, when the portals of Yamunotri and Gangotri opened. Kedarnath followed three days later and Badrinath the day after that, so every Char Dham Yatra group could complete the circuit from late April.

Because all four temples were open by 23 April, the full Chardham Yatra 2026 circuit has been possible since then. Pilgrims who started with Yamunotri on the opening day reached Badrinath after it opened, keeping the traditional west-to-east Char Dham Yatra order.

Chardham Yatra 2026 closing dates: what to expect

The temples close for winter around Diwali and Bhai Dooj, in October–November. The exact closing dates for the Chardham Yatra 2026 are announced by the temple committees, usually around Vijayadashami. We will not guess the dates here; check the Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee website or call us for the latest announcement.

• Yamunotri and Gangotri usually close first, around Bhai Dooj and Diwali.
• Kedarnath closes around Bhai Dooj.
• Badrinath is traditionally the last of the four to close.

If you want to complete the Chardham Yatra 2026 before the closings, plan to start soon and keep a buffer of a day or two. A Char Dham Yatra planned too close to the closing ceremonies risks missing a dham if weather delays the road.

Registration for the Chardham Yatra 2026 is free and compulsory for every pilgrim, including children. There are five ways to register:

Crowd and weather advice for the Chardham Yatra 2026

• Carry warm clothes. Even on a sunny October day, nights at Kedarnath and Badrinath are cold on the Chardham Yatra 2026.
• Walk slowly above 3,000 m. Two of the four Char Dham Yatra temples need a trek. Rest, drink water and do not rush the Kedarnath or Yamunotri treks.
• Avoid night driving. Plan each Char Dham Yatra day to reach the hotel before dark.
• Start darshan early. On the Chardham Yatra 2026, morning queues are shorter, and afternoon weather is less predictable.
• Carry cash. UPI signal is weak in many places on the Char Dham Yatra route.
• Seniors: get a medical check before the Chardham Yatra 2026, especially with heart or breathing conditions.

Late September and October are among the nicest weeks of the Chardham Yatra 2026: the monsoon has passed, the peaks are clear and the crowds are smaller than in May–June. Here is how we suggest planning the rest of your Chardham Yatra 2026:

1. Decide your window. The standard Char Dham Yatra takes 9 days from Haridwar. Count back from the expected closings and leave a buffer.
2. Register right away. Get your Chardham Yatra 2026 QR pass as soon as dates are fixed.
3. Book hotels and vehicle. Autumn weekends and the Navratri–Dussehra holidays fill Char Dham Yatra hotels quickly.
4. Consider Do Dham. Short on days? The Do Dham Yatra to Kedarnath and Badrinath takes 5–6 days.
5. Keep plans flexible. Early snow can close a stretch for a day; our drivers adjust the Chardham Yatra 2026 route.

Missed the Chardham Yatra 2026? Book early for the 2027 Char Dham Yatra

If the Chardham Yatra 2026 is not possible for you, start planning for next year. The temples reopen in April–May, with Yamunotri and Gangotri opening on Akshaya Tritiya; the exact 2027 dates are announced by the temple committees closer to the season. May–June 2027 will again be the busiest period, so families who want those weeks should enquire early. Chardham Yatra 2026 by helicopter

For pilgrims short on time or unable to manage long road days, the Chardham Yatra 2026 is also offered by helicopter. DGCA-approved private operators fly a 5 nights / 6 days circuit from Sahastradhara helipad, Dehradun: Day 1 arrive in Dehradun; Day 2 Yamunotri (Kharsali helipad, then ~6 km trek, pony or palki); Day 3 Gangotri (Harsil helipad, then ~25 km drive); Day 4 Kedarnath (shuttle from Sersi/Phata); Day 5 Badrinath and Mana village; Day 6 fly back. The 2026 price is about ₹2.1–2.4 lakh per person; a Do Dham helicopter trip is about ₹1.25–1.4 lakh. Always confirm the current rate.

Rules: passenger weight limit of about 75 kg (extra weight charged), one soft bag up to ~5 kg, about 6 passengers per flight, and flights depend on weather.
